Mentor Program
Be a Mentor: Are you interested in
becoming a volunteer mentor?
The mentor's role and responsibilities are
to share his/her experience and provide fellowship
and reassurance.
The mentor must protect the privacy of the
individual being mentored.
The mentor will encourage the patient, caregiver
and family member to seek professional input
from the transplant team Ñ co-ordinators, social
workers and physicians Ñ when appropriate and
work within the referral system.
Recipients and patients on waiting lists may
be taking many medications. While many of us
may be on the same medications, the prescription
is based on individual needs. Discussions on
medications is discouraged and should be referred
to transplant co-ordinators and physicians.
A requirements for a post-transplant patient
or caregiver is become a mentor are:
- 1 year
post transplant
- Emotionally stable
- Socially well adjusted
- Good communicator
- Complete a full day of
training
Mentors are carefully selected by the co-ordinators
and/or social workers.
Mentors must complete a full day of training.
